Chinese Lantern Festival - Animals of the World

From 17 October 2025 to 22 February 2026, Budapest Zoo will be transformed into a vibrant world of illuminated wildlife, creativity, and cultural discovery. Combining traditional Chinese lantern artistry with contemporary design, the festival offers an immersive experience that celebrates both the beauty of nature and the power of cultural exchange.

Crafted by artisans from Zigong, China, the lanterns celebrate a centuries-old tradition of Chinese lantern-making. As part of China's intangible cultural heritage, they combine traditional craftsmanship, artistic creativity, and modern lighting technology to create immersive cultural experiences.

Inspired by endangered animals from across the globe, Animals of the World brings together wildlife, culture, and art in a spectacular display of light. Each lantern installation incorporates distinctive cultural motifs from the region it represents, celebrating both the diversity of the natural world and the richness of human cultures.
